Snappy Plumbing Solutions - Get It Done Fast And Right

No one wants to think that their plumbing system has a malfunction. Malfunction is such a strong word, yes, but it is how almost every plumbing system error can be categorized. Sometimes, you have a problem I like to call a "snappy plumbing" fix. These can be either a temporary fix or a permanent fix depending on the situation. Either way having a "snappy plumbing" task is much preferred to the malfunction of other plumbing jobs and believe me when I say they rarely fall in a middle ground.

One type of snappy plumbing task concerns changing small leaks around the kitchen faucet. This type of problem can usually be fixed with a simple gasket or caulking around the rim. All that is needed is a plumbers wrench - those are actually an expensive tool starting at around $15 USD. However, once you have purchased the plumber's wrench, you will find it comes in handy for so many things. Anyway, you loosen the connectors around the leak and viola, easy as pie to fix. I would also suggest that you make sure that the water is turned off underneath that particular sink or your problem goes from a snappy plumbing problem to a plumbing malfunction.

Once you have changed the gaskets, you can then proceed to seal up the faucet. This is pretty much a reverse of what you did to get it undone. Be careful of finishes! I have seen many a good sink ruined because the finish has been dented, dinged, and scraped unnecessarily. I always like to add a layer of plumber's tape as well. This goes around the thread of the faucet before you change the gasket; this gives it a nice, tight seal.

Another common problem happens with toilets. They keep running and running; you find that the only way to get it to stop running - if you can get it to stop - is to jiggle the lever. If you have to jiggle the lever, it is time to do another snappy plumbing job. This can be a bit more difficult, but it is still a snappy type of job. You will usually want to inspect the actual tank to see if something is obstructing the flow of water. If you don't see anything, I suggest you head to nearest hardware store or Wal-Mart to purchase a tank kit. Yes, this problem is common enough to have a kit.

Okay, this is the fun part. You have to drain your toilet tank. This isn't too difficult with a bit of imagination. I have done this before so I know anyone can do it. Then you need to turn off the water to the toilet. This is usually done by two knobs at the bottom, behind the tank. The knobs resemble outdoor faucet levers to me. I suggest you read the kit at this point. Yes, there are instructions and you should follow those above all else.

Now you should wear some of the yellow, nylon, heavy-duty kitchen gloves. Then you get on some grungy clothes. Now, you are prepared to follow the directions. As you can see, snappy plumbing jobs are done lickity split. They sure beat those plumbing malfunctions. A little knowledge goes a long way; one of the most intelligent things you can do sometimes is ask for help. If you have any problems, get help - professional help if you have to.
