Whether you are in the market for some valves, faucets, or plumbing parts, Sloan Plumbing is truly the answer to your problems.
The founder of Sloan Valve Co was also the inventor of the Flushometer. He was born in Liberty Missouri where he worked as an apprentice pipe fitter. Later he moved to Chicago where he became a foreman, then a superintendent, and then an independent contractor.
Mr. Sloan was a smart man who self educated himself. He developed an exceptional level of knowledge relating to hydraulics and electrical circuitry. His exceptional knowledge resulted in 64 inventions throughout his life. These inventions included
One of those inventions was a result of a horrible fire that occurred in an Iroquois Theater in Chicago. Hundreds of people were killed in this fire and Sloan went on to invent a fireproof curtain that had a heat fusible linkage that dropped automatically in the event of a fire. It was a very practical yet simple invention.
From there Mr. Sloan went onto develop the Royal Flushometer which was simply ingenious and so simple. This is a diaphragm type valve dating back to 1906 and today it is still the larges selling valve in the Sloan line. There are millions of them throughout the world.
The flushometer went against all the standard toilet designs with their tanks. It saved a great deal of water, had a lot less maintenance, and there was little that could be vandalized in a commercial environment. The only drawback was that the initial cost was somewhat higher but the payback was ten fold.
But the biggest challenge was changing human nature. People resist change and so initially plumbers were afraid to install the valve and owners didn't want to be the guinea pig. Manufacturers refused to carry the fixtures and Lenders wanted no part of them.
In year one he sold a whopping total of one! But that didn't stop him. Year two he sold two, and it was finally in year three where things improved and he sold one hundred and fifty. After that the sales did nothing but climb each year.
Mr. Sloan died at the age of 93 but not after creating many innovative products. Today the Flushometer is still the number one valve on the market and Sloan plumbing is a household name.
