Rough In Plumbing For Your New House
Two hundred years ago when a house was built the house went up and the outhouse was built out back. No worries about plumbing. But today's home demands a lot! Flushing toilets, bathtubs, sinks, showers, dishwashers and all that water has to come into the home and go out through a pressurized system. So the rough in plumbing for you new house is in place long before the actual appliances go in.
Sure back in the day you'd fill the basin with water, wash, and then toss the water out onto the garden. However no-one would even consider taking their sewer pipe and hanging it out the window. Even if it wasn't illegal most people still wouldn't consider it. You see we are much smarter than we use to be. We've learned that human waste contaminates the ground, starts to smell, and causes disease.
Today we not only have fully self contained plumbing systems that are plumbed into the public sewer system we also have fully pressurized and treated public water systems that enter our homes.
Now here's the catch. You've decided to build a new house. In fact you've even hired your contractor, and construction is about to begin but it will be some time before those fixtures are in place. That's why you have your floor plan.
Your floor plan shows where everything is going to go from those sinks, to the toilets, to the dishwasher, or any other plumbing fixture you are going to have installed. Not only will the contractor have the floor plan they will have the architectures plans and on those plans will show how the plumbing is going to run through the house.
So long before anything gets put into the home your rough in plumbing will be in place and connected to the public systems. That includes all aspects including things like the P-traps, and vent.
Your plans are going to include the diameter of your pipes, the material type that will be used, the type of joints and where they will be, what will be used to support the pipes, the angle of the pipes, and the distance the pipes will run to name just a few specs.
When all the specs are followed and the rules are applied reliable plumbing systems that are safe and effective are installed. Now on the plans the plumbing looks relatively simple but in actuality plumbing an entire house is a bit of a complex project.
Your rough in plumbing will include all the plumbing for both water and sewer that your entire home will need so everything can be quickly hooked up.
