Do That Repair With PVC Plumbing Fittings

If you've decided it's time you attempted some of those plumbing repairs on your own then why not think about doing that repair with PVC plumbing fittings?

Plumbing isn't everyone's favorite past time but with a little bit of practice you'll be able to handle some basic repairs and save yourself a few dollars. So let's create a scenario to give you a little plumbing practice.

Let's say the main line that comes into your house has been snapped off by the riding lawnmower. This happened because it was incorrectly installed to begin with.

The first thing you have to do is shut the water off. Now you need to figure out what parts you are going to need to do the repair. While you are repairing the line why not add a tap? It's the perfect location for it. Oh yes and a main shut off would be a great idea.

Make your parts list and head off to the hardware store. You need to pick up a handful of elbows, the right length of PVC pipe, at T, a shut off valve, a brass tap, sandpaper, Teflon tape, PVC primer paint, PVC cement, and it's going to cost you hardly anything.

Now it's time to get buys. Cut the PVC pipe to the length you need taking off the sand paper to take off the flakey stuff. Now spray the primer on the surface you are going to glue. If you aren't sure do a test run preassembling so that you know.

Now it's time to start gluing pieces together. Take your cement and slop it around the inside of your fitting on then on the outside of the PVC pipe.

Next stick the PVC pipe into the fitting. Make sure it completely in and nice and snug. Take your Teflon tape and wrap it around any fittings you feel need the extra security while the glue sets.

The raised handles going to be a lot more noticeable so chances are it isn't going to get broken again but who knows what your next plumbing adventure might be. Always remember that the key to PVC plumbing fittings is sanding and gluing. Get those two steps right and it can't go wrong.
