10 Tips On Plumbing Contracts

Choosing the right plumbing contractor for your job is a very big decision and making the wrong choice can cost you more than money. It can cost you a lot of frustration too! Signing the wrong type of plumbing contract can also cost you money and frustration. So here are 10 great tips on plumbing contracts.

1. Start by getting at least three estimates for the plumbing work you need to have done. That way you'll get a very good idea of averages. You'll be able to compare high and low labor costs and parts.

If you see one company is a lot lower than the other two before buying into it you'll want to find out why. Just great pricing? Cheaper parts? Inferior skills? Make your end decision based on more than just the cost. More might be better if you have a more reliable crew or a higher quality brand of product.

2. Check to make sure the contractor is licensed and bonded within your state. The plumber's license number should appear clearly on the contract.

3. Get some references from the contractor and then check them out. Find out what others have to say. It's a great way to find out a lot of information. Check with the BBB while you are at it to make sure there are no filed complaints.

4. Don't sign the contract until you are sure you understand everything on it. Read all the details including the fine print.

5. Ensure your contract has prices on it and ensure your original quote is present so that you can't be charged more.

6. The guarantee on parts and workmanship should be listed. And it should be explained in depth so that there is no confusion about the process.

7. Your contract should outline the payment terms. You should always be able to retain at least 50% of the total until the job is completed to your satisfaction.

8. The contractors name, address, telephone number, and license number should be on the contract.

9. The contract should describe in full the work that is being done and the materials that will be used. If you are having fixtures installed the brand, color, size, etc. should all be listed.

10. Only sign off on the contract document when the work is completed and you are happy with the results.

Plumbing contracts are as much a part of the plumbing business as pipes, toilets, and tubs. Don't let your money go down the drain by having an inadequate contract. Following these 10 tips will have you plumbed right in no time.
