Tips On Obtaining Emergency Plumbing Service

You're enjoying your favorite sit com when suddenly something doesn't sound right. You mute the TV and listen. You hear water running. And like Inspector Gadget you follow the sound of the water. In horror you discover the hot water tank has blown a really big leak, no infact it appears the bottom has plumb fallen out. Here are some tips on obtaining emergency plumbing service.

Whether your emergency constitutes a broken pipe, a blown hot water tank, toilet problems, or sewer backups chances are at some point in your life you will need a plumber in an emergency. So why not be prepared?

You should also recognize the difference between an inconvenience and a true emergency. Something that can wait a day or two can save you a great deal of money. So that hot water tank that's blown its bottom is that an emergency?

Technically the plumber's part is not once you shut the water flow off. Grant it you may have restricted water use but there really should be a shut off right by the tank. That way you can shut the tank off and continue to use water.

The emergency is the clean up part. Getting the water off the floor, soaking up the water, getting fans in there to dry things up, that's the emergency so that there is no damage to the floors. Shutting off the water is an emergency. Replacing the tank can be done in a day or two if need be.

When you have scheduled work done it's easy to find a plumber that meets your needs. You call three or four, have them come out and give you a written quote for the work that needs to be done. Check references, check licenses, and decide who is the best man or woman for the job.

But in an emergency one of two things will happen. You'll do whatever you need to for safety and then you'll grab the phone book and pick a plumbers number, tell them your dilemma, and they'll tell you if they can help. When they arrive they'll deal with the emergency, hand you a bill and await payment. You don't have a great deal of control over the entire situation.

One thing to consider is having a plumber or two lined up for these occasions. Perhaps you've had some work done already, or maybe a friend or family member has a plumber they can recommend. Give them a quick call before anything happens and see if they are interested in handling an emergency should it arise.

But realize just because there is a plumbing emergency doesn't mean you should get hosed. When you contact the plumber for that emergency take the time to find out what the hourly rate is and what the fee is for an emergency call out. You also need to find out how they track their time. Don't like what they say go onto the next one. Don't get taken!!

Before the plumber undertakes the repair you should be told what is going to be done. If you feel that the repair is growing out of control put a stop to it, question the plumber, and if necessary find a different plumber. Always choose a plumber that you are confident with and that you trust to do the job fairly and quickly.

These tips on obtaining emergency plumbing service will help reduce the stress should that dreaded emergency arise. Why not be prepared?
